Getting started

WindowSurfer is designed to make your surfing experience enjoyable and effortless.

The best way to get started with WindowSurfer is by creating Links to your frequently visited Web sites in the left hand Links Tab. These Links (created in the 'Links' tab in 'Sidebar') enable you to implement some of the most important functions available in WindowSurfer.

You will be able to Load Multiple Pages or Login to Web pages automatically on start-up (or optionally with the press of a button or buttons). You will also be able to switch the view between loaded pages by pressing the Tab button (shown in yellow color).

Before you start using WindowSurfer, please take a few minutes to understand some most important points which will help you enjoy your surfing experience.

1. A few basic things
Help: Press F1 to display the help window.
Tooltips: Rest your mouse over a button or icon to display the function of a control.
User Interface: Please familiarize yourself with the controls in Main Window.
Hide/Show Sidebar: Use F11 key to toggle between Auto-Hide and Show modes.
Switching Web Pages: Use the small button shown in yellow color in the left-hand Sidebar. Look here Links Tab
Going Back Forward : Each Tab has its own navigation history. Clicking on the Back or Forward buttons will move between web pages loaded in the currently selected Tab.

2. Create Links with or without 'Auto Load'
Right-click in the Sidebar on left-hand side of this window. Select 'Add Link from the pop-up menu. To modify a Link, right-click on a Link button and select 'Edit Link' from the pop-up menu. Check the 'Load At Start' check-box if you want the web page to be loaded automatically on start-up.

3. Automatic Login
In the 'Add Link' or 'Edit Link' dialog-box, check the 'Fill-in' check-box and enter your UserName and Password for the web-site.

3. Switching Web Pages
WindowSurfer lets you load multiple web pages in a single window and enables you to switch between the web pages instantaneously with just a click on the Tab button. The 'Tab' button is the smaller button located to the right of larger 'Load/Reload' button.

4. Block Pop-up windows
In the 'Edit Link' dialog box, check the 'Block Auto Popup Windows' check-box. Or go to Options\'WindowSurfer Options' menu and select Popups tab.

5. Web Search
Click on Search tab which is located in the Sidebar. Alternatively press ALT+S. Click on the desired search engine's option button and then enter your search text.

6. One-click Bookmarking
Bookmarks allow you to store links to important web sites with just one click. When you click on this Bookmark button on the toolbar, the current web page is added to a list of Bookmarks.

7. Multiple User Accounts
WindowSurfer lets you create separate accounts for different persons sharing the same computer. Each User can have individual settings, preferences, links and passwords.

8. Portable Settings
WindowSurfer lets you export a User's settings, links, passwords, bookmarks, etc. These settings may then be used for Importing on another computer or for backup. You may do this from menu File/Settings/Export-Import.
